A Beginner’s Look at Reflexology

One of the many awesome massage services we offer at Pure Reflection Spa is reflexology. Reflexology is unlike most forms of massage as the focus is on the hands, feet, and ears. This very precise practice is administered by trained experts known as reflexologists. It is based on the idea that the hands, feet and ears correspond to certain body systems and organs, and that applying pressure at particular points can promote healing and relaxation among other health benefits.

reflexology is founded on the ancient Chinese belief in qi

Similar to acupuncture, reflexology is founded on the ancient Chinese belief in qi (“chee”), an energy that flows through our bodies. When we are stressed or injured, the qi is blocked, causing imbalance and possible illness. Reflexology combats this by applying pressure to specific points, sending an energy flow to the corresponding areas in need.

Among the several benefits reflexology is reported to produce are reduced stress, reduced pain, heightened mood, and a general feeling of wellbeing. Many people have also used reflexology to treat or supplement other treatments for conditions such as sinus infections, bacterial infections, diabetes, infertility, hormonal imbalances, chronic headaches, arthritis pain, digestive problems, and cancer or nerve problems from other cancer treatments.

When you come in to see us at Pure Reflection Spa for your first reflexology appointment, your reflexologist will ask you for a brief health history, then explain in greater depth about what reflexology is and what to expect from your first treatment. They will then begin to work on either your feet, hands, or ears, depending on where your body needs healing, with treatments typically lasting somewhere between 30 minutes to an hour.

At Pure Reflection Spa, we are happy to answer any further questions you might have about reflexology or any of our other services. Give us a call today.
